Two more injured as banned manjha cases rise to 13 in 15 days
LUCKNOW, Feb. 26 -- Two people were injured in separate incidents involving banned nylon manjha in the city on Wednesday, taking the number of such cases reported in the past 15 days to 13 and raising fresh safety concerns.
In the first incident, a teenage girl riding a scooter was injured near the DAV College overbridge under the Hussainganj Police Station limits.
Eyewitnesses said she was crossing the overbridge when a kite string suddenly brushed against her neck. As she tried to remove it with her hand, the sharp manjha allegedly caused a deep cut on her hand.
Passersby rushed to help and shifted her to a nearby hospital for primary treatment. She sustained deep injuries on her hand and is reported to be stable.
In another incident, Dr Deepak Gupta from the community medicine department of King George's Medical University (KGMU) was injured after allegedly coming in contact with banned manjha near Charak Chauraha flyover in Chowk.
The string reportedly caused injuries to his nose and ear. He was given first aid at a nearby hospital and later discharged.
The incidents come days after a fatal accident on February 5 at Haiderganj flyover, where 33-year-old medical staffer Mohammad Shoaib died after his throat was slit by a banned manjha while riding a motorcycle. He was rushed to the hospital but could not survive....
