Haldwani, Jan. 15 -- Forest officials trapped two adult leopards in separate cages in the Dhar and Ramgarh areas of Nainital district on Wednesday, amid intensified operations following recent human-wildlife conflicts. The Forest Department installed the cages after repeated leopard sightings and attacks in the region. Officials shifted both animals to the Ranibagh Rescue Centre and sent their biological samples for forensic examination to determine if either is a man-eater. Sub-divisional officer (SDO), Nainital Forest Division, Mamta Chand said several cages went up in Tallidini village of Dhar tehsil after villagers reported frequent leopard movements. "On Wednesday, an adult and healthy leopard was trapped in one of the cages installed in Tallidini," she said. A leopard killed Hema Devi (45), a resident of Dini Talli village, on December 26, 2025, prompting intensified surveillance. Villagers demanded immediate action, so officials installed camera traps to monitor movements and placed cages at multiple locations. htc...
