Two accused in triple murder arrested after police encounter
VARANASI, Jan. 2 -- Two accused wanted in a triple murder case were arrested following a police encounter in the Gahmar police station area of Ghazipur district, police said on Thursday.
The accused were identified as Aman Singh, 19, and Arvind Singh, 21, both residents of Gahmar Patti Khelusarai. A reward of Rs.50,000 had been announced on each of them. With their arrest, a total of five accused have been arrested so far in the case. Police said two country-made pistols, two used cartridges and live ammunition were recovered from their possession.
Circle officer Anil Kumar said that on Wednesday night, Gahmar police station in-charge Inspector Pramod Kumar Singh, along with his team, was on routine patrol when they received information that the accused were hiding in an orchard in Bhatpurwa village. The police team reached the spot and cordoned off the area.
"On seeing themselves surrounded, the accused opened fire at the police team with the intention to kill," the officer said. Police retaliated with controlled firing in self-defence, during which one accused sustained a bullet injury in his right leg, while the other was shot in both legs. Both were rushed to the CHC in Bhadaura, where they are undergoing treatment and are stated to be out of danger. A separate case has been registered for the encounter and weapon recovery, and legal action is continuing.
