Meerut, Jan. 24 -- An 18-month-old child died after falling into an open drain near his home in Bareilly district, police said on Friday. An FIR has been registered against two persons, including the village head's husband, following a complaint by the child's family. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Mohammadpur Thakuran village under the Bhojipura police station area. The child, identified as Prayag, son of farmer Jitendra, was playing outside his house when he went near a large open drain and slipped into it. Family members rushed to the spot and pulled the child out of the drain. However, he had already drowned. He was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The child's grandfather, Ramdas, alleged negligence by the local administration. He claimed that the drain was illegally constructed and was not recorded in official government maps.
