Kanpur, Feb. 20 -- A vegetable oil trader, his wife, and their son were killed late on Thursday after their car careened off the road and plunged into a canal near Turukpur village. The family was returning to Bharthana after attending a social function in Dibiyapur when their vehicle veered out of control near the Bundelkhand Expressway. The victims, identified as Rajiv Gupta, 46, a prominent businessman, his wife Madhu, 42 and their son Shubham, 12, were trapped inside the vehicle as it sank into the deep waters of the canal. Passers-by who witnessed the car disappear beneath the surface immediately alerted the Achhalda police. A frantic rescue operation was launched, with local villagers joining the police in the dark waters. However, the struggle to reach the submerged car proved difficult. By the time the three occupants were pulled out and rushed to a nearby hospital, they were declared dead....
