Three new cow shelters set to open in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, March 11 -- Amid persistent concerns over stray cattle roaming roads and fields and causing inconvenience to residents and commuters, Prayagraj is set to open three new large cow shelters next month, significantly boosting the city's capacity to house destitute cattle, particularly cows, in a safer environment.
Chief veterinary officer Dr SN Yadav said that the construction of the new shelters is nearing completion at a total cost of Rs.3.68 crore. He emphasised that the initiative is in line with the state government's commitment to providing safe spaces for cattle roaming roads and fields, ensuring their proper care and welfare. "These shelters, similar to those already operational in Prayagraj and other districts, will be fully equipped with fodder, water, and medical facilities," Dr Yadav added.
All three new shelters are located in the trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj district. The one-hectare shelter in Paraninpur, under the Urwa development block, has been completed at a cost of Rs.1.60 crore and is currently undergoing technical assessment.
Construction of the shelter in Sonbarsa, Shankargarh, is 80% complete, while the Rera, Jasra shelter has reached 70% completion. All three are expected to begin housing cattle from April, Dr Yadav said....
