Three held for firing at BHU student
VARANASI, March 25 -- Three persons accused of attempting to murder a student near a hostel at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) were arrested by Lanka Police Station, police said on Tuesday.
The accused were identified as Piyush Tiwari ,22, a resident of Rohtas, Rishabh Rai ,24, and Tapas Rai ,22, both residents of Kaimur in Bihar. Police said the accused allegedly opened fire at a student near Birla Hostel in the last week of February with an intent to kill. A case was registered on February 22 under relevant sections of the BNS, and a reward of Rs.25,000 each was announced for their arrest.
Station officer Rajkumar said that during questioning, Piyush Tiwari, a first-year MA student, confessed to his involvement. According to police, Tiwari said he had earlier been assaulted by another student on the campus and had filed a complaint. He alleged that he continued to face harassment, following which he planned the attack with the help of his associates.
The accused had been hiding in different locations in Bihar with their phones switched off to avoid arrest, police said. All three were arrested on March 24 and taken into custody for further questioning.htc...
