LUCKNOW, Feb. 18 -- The cybercrime police in Lucknow on Tuesday arrested three members of a gang who allegedly duped an Alambagh-based couple of Rs.90 lakh by posing as ATS officers and placing them under 12 days of 'digital arrest' last month. Investigators said the gang used WhatsApp calls, fake identities and frequent hotel stays across cities to avoid detection. Following the case, an FIR was registered under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS and section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act last month. During interrogation, one of the arrested accused Mayank Srivastava, 24, admitted he allowed his bank accounts to be used due to financial distress. . The other arrested accused are Irshad, 23, a resident of Ghaziabad and Manish Kumar alias Akash, 24, a resident of Delhi. DCP (crime) Kamlesh Dixit, said the fraud began on January 26 when Veena Bajpai received a call from a man claiming to be an ATS inspector.
