VARANASI, Feb. 17 -- Chunar police in Mirzapur arrested three accused on Monday who were wanted in connection with an intoxicating syrup smuggling case registered in Chunar. The accused have been identified as Pratham Jaiswal alias Kishan Jaiswal, Ujjwal Keshari and Amarjeet Kumar, all residents of the Chowk area in Varanasi, police said. The case was registered under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act, following the recovery of 8,734 bottles of intoxicating syrup and the arrest of one person transporting the consignment. During the investigation, police found the involvement of the three accused in allegedly smuggling the syrup for intoxication purposes. They had been absconding since the case was registered. A police team led by Chunar Inspector-in-charge Vijay Shankar Singh carried out the arrests. The accused were produced before a court and later sent to jail, police said.
