Teen kills self after being reprimanded for smoking
Haldwani, Feb. 4 -- A 14-year-old boy died by suicide on Tuesday in Haldwani's Banbhulpura area, allegedly after being reprimanded by his grandfather to not smoke, police said.
The incident took place at a shop on Bareilly Road.
Banbhulpura police station officer in-charge Dinesh Fartyal said: "The minor, a resident of Banbhulpura, took the extreme step on Tuesday morning at his grandfather's shop."
Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy's father works in Punjab, and the minor had been living with his grandfather in Banbhulpura.
"On Tuesday, the boy was reportedly smoking a cigarette when his grandfather noticed him and reprimanded him. After scolding the boy, the grandfather left for work," Fartyal said.
When the grandfather returned shortly afterwards, he found the boy dead inside the eatery. With neighbours' help, he rushed him to Dr Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said.
No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The body was sent for post-mortem examination and later handed over to the family. htc...
