Teen held with illegal pistol at Metro station
LUCKNOW, Feb. 5 -- A 19-year-old student was arrested after a .315-bore illegal country-made pistol was recovered from his bag at the KD Singh Babu Stadium Metro Station in Hazratganj here on Tuesday, police said on Wednesday.
"The arrest was made after a bag belonging to the accused was flagged during X-ray screening at the metro station. Security personnel immediately alerted the police, following which a team from Hazratganj police station reached the spot and took the youth into custody," Hazratgang station house officer (SHO) Vikram Singh said.
Identified as Akshat Kanaujia, a resident of Vrindavan Colony in the Dilkusha area of Lucknow, the accused has been booked under sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, according to an official statement by police.
The state capital police said that during preliminary questioning, the accused claimed that he had found the pistol near Janeshwar Mishra Park and was carrying it with him when he boarded the metro.
The first information report (FIR) was registered based on a complaint submitted by sub-inspector (SI) Ankit Kumar.
Police said further probe was underway as they were checking whether the accused had any criminal record or links to illegal arms networks....
