LUCKNOW, Feb. 14 -- Several students turned up at Lucknow University in support of the UGC's equity regulations here on Friday. A national call for students to strengthen enforceable equality mechanisms in higher education was given on the occasion. The 'Equity Advancement March', consisting of students from the university and affiliated colleges and those associated with All India Students Association, National Students Union of India, Samajwadi Chatrasabha, Birsa Ambedkar Student Federation, Student Federation of India, Birsa Ambedkar Phule Student's Association, was planned from Gate No. 3 of the LU to the DM's office. The march was organised around structural demands aimed at addressing discrimination in higher education. Students called for caste-based discrimination to be recognised as a distinct and legally actionable institutional violation, and demanded the creation of fully autonomous anti-discrimination bodies independent of university administrations. htc...
