Strings and soul mark Ravi Shankar tribute
Lucknow, April 8 -- The 107th birth anniversary of Pandit Ravi Shankar was marked with a cultural evening organised by the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Pandit Ravi Shankar Music Foundation at Sant Gadgeji Maharaj Auditorium on Tuesday. Titled The Soul of India in Musical Notes, the evening opened on a spiritual note with a peace chant by students of Vedic Gurukul Ashram.
The opening performance, Bharat Gaan, featured 25 students in tricolour attire presenting Shubh Sukh Chain Ki Barkha Barse, evoking a strong sense of patriotism. This was followed by a sarod recital by Aryan Chatterjee, grandson of Pandit Ravi Shankar. The highlight was a musical confluence of Indian instruments-santoor from the North, flute from Central India, and violin from the South, creating a mesmerizing blend of traditions..
Santoor exponent and disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar, Tarun Bhattacharya, enthralled the audience with his recital. He was joined by internationally acclaimed violinist Mysore Manjunath of the Mysore Brothers, who brought out the nuances of Carnatic music.
