Jaipur, March 11 -- Amid rising incidents of digital payment errors and cyber fraud, the Cyber Crime Branch of Rajasthan Police has issued a public advisory, urging citizens to remain vigilant while using UPI platforms. In the era of Digital India, while UPI payments have made transactions quick and convenient, even a small mistake - such as entering a wrong mobile number - can result in hard-earned money being transferred to an unintended account. Instead of panicking in such situations, the police have outlined a step-by-step process to improve the chances of recovering the amount. As soon as a wrong transaction is detected, users should take a screenshot of the payment confirmation and carefully note down the UTR (Unique Transaction Reference) number. This 12-digit reference number is crucial for tracking and recovering the transaction. Users are advised to immediately visit the transaction history section of their respective UPI apps - such as Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm - and select the "Report a Problem" or "Raise a Dispute" option. Prompt reporting helps banks and payment service providers initiate tracking at the earliest. The advisory stresses contacting the bank immediately, either by visiting the nearest branch or calling customer care. . Representation Customers should provide written details including the beneficiary's UPI ID, transaction time, and transferred amount. As per RBI guidelines, timely reporting significantly improves the chances of a refund. If the issue is not resolved satisfactorily by the app or bank, citizens can escalate the matter to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) through its official portal or helpline number 1800-120-1740. Director general of police Rajeev Kumar Sharma appealed to the public to adopt preventive measures: always verify the name displayed after entering a mobile number or scanning a QR code; do not make payments under pressure from unknown callers; and remember that receiving money never requires entering a PIN or scanning a QR code....
