JHANSI, Feb. 27 -- A speeding pickup van ran over four women, killing three and critically injuring one while they were returning to their home after working at a marriage ceremony near Chandrika Devi temple under the City Kotwali area in Mahoba district on the intervening night of February 25-26. The women were walking home after completing cooking work at a wedding ceremony at a city hotel when an out-of-control pickup van struck them. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle after the crash. The deceased were identified as Shyamrani (40), Geeta (35) and Bhagwati (50). Shyamrani died on the spot, while Geeta and Bhagwati succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The fourth victim, Kapuri, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Jhansi Medical College for further treatment. Bhagwati was a former councillor in Mahoba. Police reached the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem. Additional SP Mahoba Vandana Singh said, "The incident occurred at around 2 am. We have seized the pickup van, and the driver has been identified and will be arrested soon.
