GORAKHPUR, Feb. 5 -- A senior BJP leader who serves as a manager of an intermediate college was shot at by armed assailants on Tuesday night near Bhainsa village under Gagha police station limits, triggering political ripples across the district on Wednesday. According to police, four armed persons opened fire on Radhamohan Singh, a senior BJP leader, as he was returning home from a local RSS meeting on his motorcycle around 9.00 pm. Singh was hit in the back and fell off his motorcycle. Neighbours and passersby rushed him to the Community Health Centre, from where he was referred to a higher medical facility for further treatment. His condition is reported to be stable. Police officials confirmed that one of the accused, Rishikesh Yadav, has been arrested from his residence. Three other named accused-Omnish Yadav, Anuj Sahni and Abhishek-are currently absconding. Raids are underway to arrest them. Superintendent of police (South) Dinesh Puri said that based on a written complaint filed by Singh, Gagha police have registered a case against the four accused under relevant sections of the law. A senior police official stated, "We have arrested one accused and are actively searching for the others. Strict legal action will be taken against all those involved." The official added that additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, and CCTV footage is being examined to trace the movements of the attackers. Police sources also revealed that a former district panchayat member associated with the Samajwadi Party has been taken into custody for questioning as investigators probe possible motives, including personal enmity or political rivalry.
