Lucknow, Jan. 30 -- A three-day cultural festival, Sarngadeva Samaroha, will begin at Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (BSV) on Friday to celebrate the legacy of 13th-century musicologist Sharngadeva and to connect students with classical music traditions and research. Vice-chancellor prof Mandavi Singh said at a press conference held at Jaishankar Prasad Auditorium that this is the 19th edition of the festival. It is being organised in collaboration with the Mahagami Arts Research Foundation, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. Founder-director of Mahagami Arts Research Foundation, Parwati Dutta, said that during Sharngadeva's time, Prabandha Gayan was widely practised, which later evolved into the raga-ragini tradition. The festival has been designed to revive those older traditions. Sarangadeva Prasang, on January 30 and 31, will include seminars and lecture-demonstrations at Rai Umanath Bali Auditorium. Scholars such as Prof Mandavi Singh, Darshana Jhaveri and Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar will speak on classical art forms including Dhrupad, Kathak, Manipuri and Odissi....
