Sanskrit village to be developed in Vns
VARANASI, Jan. 11 -- A village in Varanasi will be developed as a Sanskrit village to promote the use of the ancient language in daily life. The project will be carried out by Sanskrit Bharati. Kashi Vidvat Parishad general secretary and Kashi province president of Sanskrit Bharati, professor Ramnarayan Dwivedi, said a village with a population of less than 1,000 people will be selected for the project.
After the selection, a meeting will be held with prominent local residents to explain the activities planned to promote Sanskrit. A separate meeting of saints and Sanskrit scholars will also be organised. As part of the project, boards displaying basic Sanskrit words and sentences will be installed at different places in the village. The name of the village will be written in Sanskrit at the entry point. Signboards in Sanskrit will be put up at village entrances, streets and public places.
Professor Dwivedi said 12 local residents will be trained to speak simple and conversational Sanskrit. These trained villagers will then teach the language to others in the village. He said the idea of a Sanskrit village is not symbolic but practical.
The Sanskrit Bharati team will stay in the village for one year to train residents so that Sanskrit becomes an easy means of communication and not a burden. He added that the Sanskrit village will also become a centre for promoting Indian knowledge traditions, including Vedic studies, philosophy and Sanskrit learning....
