Saharanpur court awards life imprisonment to convict
Meerut, March 20 -- A Saharanpur court has sentenced a convict to life imprisonment in a five-year-old goldsmith murder case that shocked the locality with its brutality.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs.1.02 lakh on the convict. The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Alok Sharma after considering the evidence on record and witness testimonies. The incident dates back to November 8, 2021.
According to district government counsel (DGC) Amit Kumar Tyagi, the case was registered at the City Kotwali police station on the complaint of Shabbir, a relative of the deceased Kaiser, the accused, identified as Harun, slit Kaiser's throat, and then stabbed him multiple times in the abdomen.
Shabbir said when he attempted to intervene and save Kaiser, the accused attacked him as well, causing an injury to his hand.
Hearing the commotion, locals rushed to the scene and managed to overpower Harun, apprehending him along with the weapon used in the crime. Considering the gravity of the crime, the police gathered substantial evidence and registered a case against Harun under relevant sections, including murder....
