Rs.400 crore forscooty scheme
LUCKNOW, Feb. 12 -- A sum of Rs.400 crore has been allocated in the state budget for implementation of the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty scheme. Under this initiative, meritorious girl students especially of the rural background, who want to pursue higher education, were to receive free scooters to support their educational journey and improve access to higher education.
The scheme was first announced in last year's budget but failed to gain momentum in a year. Scooties were to be provided to 50,000 female students pursuing higher education with an amount of Rs 400 crore. The officials claimed that the necessary process was underway and guidelines will be issued soon under which the girls will be provided the benefits.
Approximately 50,000 girls were to be provided these scooties in a financial year based on merit, so that they may easily travel to universities or colleges. The higher education department had announced a budget of Rs 400 crore for this purpose but neither approved the scheme's rules nor issued any necessary guidelines....
