Prayagraj, Oct. 15 -- Preparations for the upcoming Magh Mela 2026 have gained momentum in Prayagraj. The mela administration submitted a budget proposal of Rs.120 crore to the state government. So far, only Rs.42 crore has been approved. For the remaining amount, officials have been directed to use leftover funds from the Mahakumbh 2025 allocations, said district officials. The government has instructed that all necessary arrangements for the Magh Mela be completed in time. This is to ensure a smooth experience for both pilgrims and Kalpvasis, who stay on the riverbanks for a month leading a life of austerity. Confirming the move, SDM (Mela) Vivek Shukla said there is no shortage of funds at present. Multiple tenders have already been issued following government instructions. "As soon as the ground dries and the water levels recede, work will commence immediately," he added. The Magh Mela 2026 is scheduled to begin in January, with Paush Purnima falling on January 3. To oversee the extensive arrangements, two additional district magistrates (ADMs), Vivek Chaturvedi and Dayanand Prasad have been given additional charge.
