Dehradun, Jan. 23 -- A controversy has erupted over the postponement of the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra after a religious body opposed the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Committee's decision to defer the pilgrimage to 2027, saying that the yatra will be held this year. Sidhpeeth Nanda Devi Mandir Samiti Kurud, based in Kurud village of Nandanagar block in Chamoli district, said it has called a meeting of all stakeholders at the temple on January 23 on Basant Panchami to take the final decision. "We have decided that the yatra will be organised this year. A meeting of all stakeholders has been called at the Kurud temple on January 23. The final decision will be taken by the Devi (the deity)," said Ashok Gaur, secretary of the Kurud-based samiti. On January 18, the Nanda Devi Raj Jat Committee announced it was postponing the pilgrimage, scheduled for September, to 2027, citing extreme weather conditions and incomplete infrastructure along the route.HTC...
