Retired cop sentenced to life imprisonment over 2003 murder case
VARANASI, Feb. 5 -- A court in Azamgarh on Wednesday sentenced a retired inspector to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs.1,05,000 on him in a case of muder and wrongful confinement that was registered in 2003. Additional district government counsel (ADGC) Deepak Mishra said that after hearing arguments from both sides, based on the evidence, the court of district Judge Jai Prakash Pandey sentenced the accused, the then station house officerJayendra Kumar Singh to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 1,05,000.
According to a press communique from police, on March 30, 2003, Jitendra Yadav, a resident of Daulatpur village, under Mehnagar police station area, Azamgarh district, filed a complaint at the police station stating that on the evening of March 29, 2003, the then station house officer of Rani ki Sarai Police Station (retired) Jayendra Kumar Singh, and head constable Narendra Bahadur Singh (deceased), had apprehended his father, Harilal Yadav, from his house and took him to Rani ki Sarai Police Station for questioning.
Jitendra further alleged that at approximately 10pm, at the instigation of Jayendra Kumar Singh, head constable Narendra Bahadur Singh shot Harilal Yadav with a revolver, he alleged.
