RespiWalk conference opens at KGMU featuring four specialised workshops
LUCKNOW, April 12 -- The RespiWalk Conference, organised by the department of respiratory medicine at King George's Medical University (KGMU), began on a high note on Saturday, drawing participation from around 300 healthcare professionals nationwide, according to a press release shared with the media.
Addressing the inaugural session, Dr Sonia Nityanand said that continuous training and adoption of new technologies are crucial for effective disease management. She stressed that advancements in medical technology not only aid early and accurate diagnosis but also significantly enhance treatment outcomes. "Innovation and upgradation are essential to strengthen the healthcare system," she noted.
Four specialised workshops were conducted on the opening day, covering pulmonary rehabilitation, mechanical ventilation, interstitial lung disease (ILD) and sleep medicine.
Two workshops were hosted at KGMU. The pulmonary rehabilitation session, led by experts including Dr Santosh Kumar and Dr Gajendra Vikram Singh, focused on patient selection, baseline assessment, and customised treatment planning. Participants received hands-on training in six-minute walk tests, breathing exercises, airway clearance techniques, muscle strengthening, and nutritional counselling.
The mechanical ventilation workshop, conducted by a panel of experts including Dr Rajeev Garg, Dr Jyoti Bajpai and others, covered ventilator basics, advanced modes, waveform interpretation and weaning strategies.
Meanwhile, two parallel workshops were held at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS). The ILD workshop, guided by Dr Ajay Kumar Verma and Dr SN Gupta, focused on radiological interpretation, disease phenotypes, and case-based diagnostic training.
