PRAYAGRAJ, March 24 -- Rescue operations continued until late Monday night at the mishap site in Prayagraj's Phaphamau area, where a cold storage facility collapsed in the afternoon, killing four workers and critically injuring 13 others. Rescue teams were assisted by sniffer dogs, while around six JCB machines worked continuously to remove the rubble. Mohd Shoib, a local, said hundreds of sacks of potatoes, damaged in the collapse were also removed along with the debris. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Varanasi, along with personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the fire brigade had been continuing the search operation for more than eight hours when the reports last came in. To speed up the clearance work, the district administration deployed additional JCB machines. District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said all efforts were being made to locate any workers still trapped under the collapsed structure and extra manpower had been deployed at the site. Four ambulances were stationed outside the cold storage, ready to transport any survivor found in the debris. Police personnel from multiple stations, along with senior officials, monitored the situation until late night. Meanwhile, ADM (finance and revenue) Vinita Singh, who will head the probe into the cause of the collapse, said the inquiry team would visit the site on Tuesday morning to assess the factors that led to the disaster....
