Lucknow, April 24 -- In relief to farmers hit by unseasonal rain, the state government has raised the permissible limit for wheat with lustre loss to 70%. The cap on shrivelled and broken grains has also been increased from 6% to 20% for procurement. Wheat procurement for the Rabi Marketing Season 2026-27 will proceed under these relaxed quality norms to prevent distress sales and protect farmers from losses, a government spokesperson said. The revised limits will ensure procurement despite rain-induced deterioration in grain quality. Such wheat will be stored separately with distinct accounting and used only within Uttar Pradesh for better quality management. The government said it will bear full responsibility for any further deterioration during storage. The move is expected to benefit a large number of affected farmers. htc...
