Haldwani, May 4 -- Haldwani police registered a first information report (FIR) on Sunday against the operator of an unregistered de-addiction centre in the Mukhani area for assaulting a 17-year-old boy, leaving him in critical condition with severe kidney and liver damage. Jaya Adhikari, wife of Anand Adhikari and a resident of Malli Bamori, filed a complaint at Mukhani police station. She said her son, Shubham Adhikari (17), who was undergoing treatment for drug addiction, had been admitted to Sankalp Nasha Mukti Samiti about two months ago. She visited the centre on 21 April and found him in normal condition. That evening, staff informed her that he had lost consciousness and been rushed to Sushila Tiwari Hospital. On reaching the hospital, Jaya Adhikari found no centre staff present. A medical examination revealed severe damage to the minor's kidneys and liver, and he was placed on ventilator support, police said. Haldwani circle officer Amit Saini said a preliminary investigation showed the centre was operating without registration. "It was also found that a minor was being illegally kept and treated at the facility, indicating clear negligence," Saini said....
