PRAYAGRAJ, Feb. 2 -- The Sangam banks witnessed a massive turnout of 2.10 crore pilgrims who took the sacred dip on Mauni Amavasya on Sunday, Magh Mela officials said. The figure surpassed the 2.04 crore devotees who had performed the ritual on the occasion during last year's Mahakumbh and the previous Magh Mela events, they added. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath extended his greetings to the devotees on X: "My congratulations and best wishes to all the devotees who have come to Tirthraj Prayag on Maghi Purnima and are taking a dip in the holy waters." With the conclusion of the fifth bathing festival, the month-long Kalpavas at the Sangam banks also came to an end.
