Record 1.9 million people visit Kainchi Dham in 6 months
Rudrapur, Feb. 15 -- The Kainchi Dham temple saw a record footfall of 1.9 million from last August to January this year, as compared to around 200,000 to 300,000 footfall in a year, according to data released by the administration.
"More and more tourists and pilgrims across the country and abroad are reaching Kainchi Dham day by day. Seeing the crowd, the administration and police have to take extra measures to control the crowd as well as maintain law and order," said Nainital district chief development officer (CDO) Arvind Pandey, on Saturday.
Kainchi Dham is located on Almora highway in Nainital. While pilgrims and tourists visit here round-the-year, in the last two years there has been a rise in numbers of visitors after celebrities like film actors, cricketers, senior politicians and stalwarts of other fields visited the temple.
Traffic snarls are seen on the roads around the temple on weekends, Tuesdays and other festivals or holidays.
Due to tourists and pilgrims, the tourism sector in the area is also booming. Tourists and pilgrims have reached the Dham to offer their prayers in record numbers. According to the data, the Dham recorded 1,980,381 footfalls from August to January. In August 219,627, in September 174,135, in October 353,707, in November 362,721, in December 428,842, and in January 441,349 footfalls. "We received this data from the Kainchi Dham management committee which has installed two scientific cameras on the way of entry and exit. These cameras count the heads of the visitors.
These cameras' accuracy is reliable. Besides, this committee maintains a register of the visitors," said Pandey....
