Lucknow, Feb. 4 -- The Uttar Pradesh government will implement a real-time monitoring system at all embankments and barrages in the flood-prone districts of the state. Extra focus will be on 19 "extremely sensitive" embankments in 11 districts and 18 "sensitive" embankments in 12 districts. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday reviewed the preparations of the irrigation department regarding flood management and measures taken to meet the possible challenges of floods and excessive rainfall in the state. Stressing on comprehensive preparedness and effective coordination, the CM said time-bound repair, strengthening and monitoring of all embankments, drains and sensitive locations should be mandatory. He directed the officers for regular vigilance, coordination and completion of flood project works within the fixed timeline. Principal secretary (Irrigation and Water Resources) Anil Garg informed the CM that districts where the Ganga, Saryu (Ghaghra), Rapti, Ramganga, Gandak, Yamuna, Gomti and Son river flowed fell under flood-affected areas. "Based on analysis of river belts and rainfall patterns, 18 embankments in 12 districts have been identified as sensitive this year, with a total length of 241.58 km," he said....
