Mussoorie, Feb. 5 -- The Dehradun district administration has banned the Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) from carrying out further excavation work over accidents and injuries allegedly caused by ongoing underground cabling work.
Acting on the directions of district magistrate Savin Bansal, the permission earlier granted to PTCUL has been cancelled with immediate effect, and machinery deployed at the site has been seized, officials said.
Additionally, a criminal case has been registered against the executive engineer and the contractor under relevant sections of the BNS at Nehru Colony police station for alleged negligence that resulted in public injuries and traffic disruption.
The action was initiated after the district magistrate took cognisance of repeated accidents reported near the LIC building.
A Quick Response Team led by SDM (judicial) Kumkum Joshi conducted a surprise inspection at the ISBT crossing and Saharanpur Road in the Majra area on Tuesday. The team found that the agency was carrying out road-cutting work in violation of approved time schedule and safety conditions, leading to traffic congestion and posing a risk to public safety.
Joshi said permission had been granted to the superintending engineer (project implementation), PTCUL, to lay a 1,996-metre underground cable for the 132 KV Majra-Laltappad line between January 16 and February 15, 2026. "Due to blatant non-compliance with the stipulated conditions, the permission has now been revoked. PTCUL has been directed to immediately fill the excavated pits...," he said....
