Prof Singh takes charge as GB Pant Institute director
Prayagraj, Jan. 24 -- Prof Yogendra Pratap Singh took charge as the new director of the Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute (GBPSSI), Jhunsi, on Friday. The institute is a constituent unit of Allahabad University (AU).
Prof Singh, from the department of Hindi and modern Indian languages at AU, formally assumed charge from officiating director Archana Singh, officials of the institute said. The post of director had fallen vacant after prof Badri Narayan Tiwari was appointed vice-chancellor of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Before leaving for Mumbai on July 30, 2025, prof Tiwari had handed over charge to associate professor Archana Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, prof Singh said efforts would be made to develop the institute as a global centre for social research. He said the institute would strengthen ties with its alumni and support policy-making by the central and state governments through research-based inputs. He also stressed the need to promote teaching and research in line with the Indian Knowledge Tradition and the National Education Policy.
Prof Singh is an expert in linguistics, media, journalism and social sciences.
His Hindi book Computer Ki Medha, which focuses on artificial intelligence and language technology, has received wide attention. He has written more than 10 books and published over 35 research papers in reputed journals.
