PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 9 -- A district court here on Thursday convicted Harishankar Pal in connection with the 2022 murder of his son in the Sarai Mamrez police station area. Additional Sessions Judge Neelima Singh held the accused guilty, while the sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Monday. According to the prosecution, the incident took place on June 5, 2022, when Harishankar Pal allegedly attacked his 25-year-old son, Ravindra Kumar Pal, with an axe while he was asleep at home. Ravindra sustained serious injuries and was found bleeding heavily. At the time of the alleged attack, Ravindra's wife Indupal, his mother Lalati Devi and his children were present in the house. Hearing screams, family members and neighbours rushed to the spot. The injured man was taken to the hospital, where he died later the same day during treatment. During the trial, the prosecution examined seven witnesses. Key testimonies were given by Indupal and Lalati, who told the court they had witnessed the incident.
