Police seize Rs 30.52 cr property from accused under NDPSA, SAFEMA
VARANASI, Jan. 25 -- A police team from Rohaniya police station in Varanasi on Saturday seized property worth approximately Rs 30.52 crore acquired by Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, the main accused in a Codeine cough syrup case, through criminal activities, said police.
The police reported that the action was taken under Section 68(F) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA).
A communique from the Varanasi Commissionerate Police stated that the investigation in the Codeine cough syrup case, registered at Rohaniya police station, revealed that the accused, Bhola, operated a large-scale organised syndicate. He engaged in the illegal smuggling of the said cough syrup, amassing movable and immovable assets worth an estimated Rs.30,52,26,944.
The communique added that the seizure of this property, acquired by Bhola Prasad, the proprietor of Shaili Traders, through criminal activities, was carried out under Section 68 F of the NDPS Act. A notice of the action was served to Jaiswal at the district jail Sonbhadra. The notice was also pasted at the homes of his family members in the presence of independent witnesses, as per rules. The police further stated that information about other illegally acquired movable and immovable properties is being collected and verified based on evidence....
