LUCKNOW, March 24 -- To raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and environmental conservation, the forest department on Monday organised a participatory programme on the banks of the Kukrail River as part of Ganga Swachhta Pakhwada 2026. Divisional forest officer Sitanshu Pandey said the programme included a plog run, a cleanliness drive, a Swachhta pledge, and various awareness activities. He said that through these initiatives, participants were sensitised to the importance of cleanliness and environmental conservation and encouraged to contribute towards building a clean and healthy environment. Students, volunteers, environmental enthusiasts, and local residents took part, making the programme a success. Participants not only contributed through voluntary labour but also pledged to make cleanliness a part of their daily lives. The primary objective of the programme was to encourage public participation in river cleanliness and environmental conservation, ensuring that every section of society becomes part of this important initiative. An official said the District Ganga Committee, Lucknow, under the guidance of the district magistrate, will continue to organise such awareness programmes in the future to achieve the goal of clean and pristine rivers....
