Pilots' federation cautions govt on relaxing crew duty norms
New Delhi, Jan. 29 -- The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has cautioned the Union government against granting any relaxations or extensions to the recently implemented Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms, calling such a move a "serious setback to flight safety".
"The Federation of Indian Pilots expresses deep concern and disappointment at reports that the Government is considering granting further extensions or relaxations to the recently implemented FDTL regulations," it said.
This comes after HT reported that four of the country's five national airlines, that fly over 95% of domestic passengers, are nudging the government to relax the new crew rest rules, terming them unsustainable for longer run.
In a detailed representation, the pilots' body said the revised FDTL regulations, notified by the DGCA in October 2023 and implemented in phases from 2025, were based on scientific evidence and global best practices, and should not be diluted to accommodate commercial pressures faced by airlines....
