Paramour slit husband's throat on woman's request; both arrested: Cops
LUCKNOW, Jan. 22 -- The PGI police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the murder of a 32-year-old man within hours, arresting his wife and her alleged paramour for conspiring to kill him after a long-running marital dispute.
The victim, identified as Pradeep Singh Parihar, a gas cylinder delivery man, was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon late Tuesday evening in the middle of the road. Police said his wife, Pooja Singh, 32, and her neighbour, Ramteerth Maurya, 32, had planned the murder in advance.
According to additional DCP (South) Vasanth Rallapalli, Ramteerth, who lived in the same rented accommodation in Utretia under the PGI police station limits, was in a relationship with Pooja. "Investigations revealed that Pooja was unhappy with her husband due to frequent quarrels and his excessive alcohol use."
"Pooja, who works with a private hospital, informed Ramteerth that her husband was returning from Kanpur Dehat and asked him to eliminate Pradeep so they could live together," a senior police officer said.
As per the police, Ramteerth took Pradeep out on a motorcycle under the pretext of drinking alcohol, got egg rolls packed, and decided to drink at a secluded place. After consuming liquor, while Pradeep was riding the bike near the Chiriya Bagh underpass service lane, Ramteerth, who was carrying the weapon in his pocket, allegedly slit his throat from behind with a knife concealed in his jeans, leading to an on-the-spot death.
After the murder, Ramteerth tried to leave the city but was arrested at the Chiriya Bagh bus stand. His wife, Pooja, was also arrested from the SGPGI Trauma Centre area.
Police teams swung into action after receiving a complaint from the victim's father, Lakhan Singh, and registered a case under sections 103(1) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police also recovered the murder weapon, a knife, and a bloodstained T-shirt from the accused.
"During interrogation, both confessed to the crime and detailed their roles in planning and executing the murder," police said, adding that further legal proceedings are underway....
