PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 17 -- A 36-year-old man died on Sunday morning, twenty-five days after undergoing a fistula operation allegedly conducted by a quack in of Pratapgarh. Police sent the body for postmortem and registered a case against the accused on a complaint filed by the family. Harikesh Yadav, a resident of Pure Bichchur village and a JCB driver living in Mahoba, had returned home before Diwali due to deteriorating health. According to family members, he was diabetic and also suffering from hemorrhoids (fistula). He reportedly began treatment with Arvind Vishwas, who runs a clinic in Birapur market. About 15 days ago, the quack allegedly operated on Harikesh, but the procedure failed and he referred the patient elsewhere. A week later, the family admitted Harikesh to a private hospital in Pratapgarh. When his condition did not improve, he was referred to Prayagraj, where he underwent treatment for four days. After showing some improvement, he was brought home. However, when his condition worsened again on Thursday, he was taken back to the hospital in Prayagraj, where he died on Sunday morning. Following the incident, the accused practitioner shut his clinic and fled, police said.
