LUCKNOW, Feb. 5 -- Booth level agents (BLAs), appointed by political parties to assist people in filling and submitting Form 6 (for registration of names in the electoral rolls) and Form 7 (to delete names from the list), have submitted 37,412 Form 6 and 264 Form 7 till Wednesday. After the publication of the draft voter list on January 6, the Election Commission of India (ECI) launched the 'claims and objections' phase till February 6 under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Along with booth level officers (BLOs) appointed by the ECI, political parties were urged to appoint BLAs to assist voters and to coordinate with BLOs in filing of claims and objections. Political parties appointed 5,79,905 BLAs - BJP (1,61,069), SP (1,57,257), BSP (1,53,803) Congress (96,248), AAP (5,720), CPI-M (315) and Apna Dal S (5,493) at 1,62,486 booths across UP. The ECI mandated that each BLA can submit at least 10 forms daily during the 'claims and objections' phase. To give thrust to the enrolment of voters, political parties, including the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party, organised camps and conferences of BLAs. Data released by the UP CEO shows that out of the 34.97 lakh Form 6 received by the ECI from people till Wednesday (for registration as voters), BLAs submitted 37,412 Form 6. BLAs appointed by the BJP submitted 23,905 Form 6, SP 10,262, BSP 1,735, Congress 1,306, Apna Dal S 122 and AAP 82 for enrolment of voters. The ECI received 76,337 Form 7 from people for deletion of names from voter list. BLAs submitted 264 of these forms. BLAs appointed by the BJP submitted 203 Form 7 while BLAs of SP submitted 47 Form 7. The EC data indicated that BLAs lagged in the task despite the hype by political parties. The 'claims and objections' phase will conclude on February 7 while the notice phase will end on February 27. The final voter list will be published on March 6....
