Haldwani, Feb. 16 -- The Uttarakhand Agricultural Produce and Marketing Board has barred the entry of outsiders into the Haldwani Mandi premises, days after a double murder inside the grain market on Bareilly Road, officials said on Sunday. Under the new restrictions, only registered traders and farmers associated with the grain market will be permitted entry. The move follows heightened security concerns after the killing of a young couple inside the market last week. According to police, the bodies of Shubham Tamta alias Golu (31), a resident of Talla Kholta in Almora, and Laxmi Pokhariya (19), a resident of Talli Pokhari in Nainital district, were found in the market on Thursday. The couple, who were in a live-in relationship, were allegedly murdered by being bludgeoned with stones. Police have arrested four accused in connection with the case - Gaurav Negi (25) of Vasundhara Colony, Saurabh Bhatt (20) of Teen Pani, Khanna Farm, Deepu Sharma (20) of Vasundhara Colony, and Deepesh Latwal (25) of Uttaranchal Vihar. During investigation, it was revealed that the accused had consumed alcohol and drugs inside the market premises. They allegedly attempted to molest Laxmi, and when she resisted, they killed both her and Shubham, police said. Following the incident, Kumaon commissioner Deepak Rawat and senior superintendent of police Manjunath TC reviewed security arrangements at the market and directed officials to tighten surveillance. Mandi secretary Digvijay Singh Dev convened a security meeting and issued fresh instructions to strengthen monitoring mechanisms. "After the double murder inside the grain market, it was decided that no vehicles other than those belonging to traders and farmers would be allowed to enter the premises. Every vehicle will be thoroughly checked before entry," Singh said....
