LUCKNOW, Feb. 6 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Tuesday ordered immediate seizure of the Naveen Galla Mandi Committee's bank account over property tax dues amounting to Rs.64,94,040. The order was issued by additional municipal commissioner Arvind Kumar Rao as part of the ongoing enforcement drive, according to an official release issued on Thursday. Municipal officials said the dues pertain to two buildings associated with Naveen Galla Mandi on Sitapur Road in Zone-6. As per records, property tax amounting to Rs.42,36,118 remains outstanding against one building as of March 31, 2026. An additional Rs.22,57,922 is pending against another building linked to the mandi, taking the total arrears to nearly Rs.65 lakh, the release stated. The civic body said it had issued multiple bills and recovery notices to the institution concerned over time. Officials also contacted the Mandi Committee personally on several occasions and urged prompt payment, but the dues remained unpaid. In January 2026, the mandi office shared an image of a Rs.22 lakh cheque dated January 19, 2026, through a social media platform (WhatsApp). However, officials clarified that as the cheque was unsigned, it was never deposited with the municipal corporation. Taking serious note of the continued default, the municipal corporation invoked its powers under sections 506 to 509 of the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporations Act, 1959. Under these provisions, LMC attached the bank account of the Mandi Committee and froze all transactions, the release said. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has given a one-week deadline to clear the outstanding amount. If the dues are not paid within the stipulated period, the corporation will recover the amount directly from the attached bank account and credit it to its funds, officials said....
