Nagar panchayat representative alleges assault, firing; case lodged
LUCKNOW, March 16 -- Police registered a case after a nagar panchayat representative was allegedly assaulted, fired upon and robbed by a group of people at an Eidgah in the Malihabad area of Lucknow on Sunday morning.
In a statement, police said Ahsan Khan, a resident of Mirzaganj Katra in Malihabad, approached the police with a written complaint regarding the incident.
"In his complaint, Khan said that around 4:30 am he went to an Eidgah located in Garhi Inderaj village to inspect cleanliness arrangements ahead of prayers. He alleged that a group of people present there got into an argument with him which soon escalated into a physical assault," the statement said. The accused were identified as Munna, Sonu, Shadab and Aleem, along with 10 to 15 unidentified people, police said. "I'm also the mutawalli of the premises selected from Waqf Board," the complainant told media persons.
Khan alleged that Sonu and Shadab fired during the incident. However, the shots did not hit him. He also alleged that the group assaulted him and took around Rs.30,000 from his pocket before fleeing the spot.
"Based on the complaint, Malihabad police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," read a police press note.
The police said a probe has been initiated and teams have been deployed to identify and arrest the accused involved in the incident....
