PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 21 -- A 25-year-old woman inmate of a private girls' hostel in Rajapur under Cantonment police station area here died under mysterious circumstances late on Monday night, police said. Preliminary investigations indicate that woman may have died by hanging. However, questions have been raised after two unidentified men reportedly took her to Tej Bahadur Sapru (Beli) Hospital, but later fled the scene after doctors there declared her dead, police added. Cantt police station in charge Sunil Kumar on Tuesday said the body had been handed over to the family after the post-mortem. "Based on the family's written complaint, the entire case is being investigated. The student's mobile phone has also been seized and is under investigation. Legal action will be taken based on the facts," he added. Cantonment police reached the hospital following the report and sent the body for post-mortem examination, which confirmed death by hanging. The woman, who hailed from Pratapgarh's Kunda area, had been living in Prayagraj for the past four years, preparing for competitive exams.
