GORAKHPUR, Feb. 16 -- Celebratory firing claimed the life of a sound system operator during a wedding procession in Pandeypur village, under the Gagha police station, on the Gorakhpur- Varanasi highway, late on Saturday night. The man who fired the fatal shot was allegedly the son of a former block pramukh of Gagha block. The accused fled the spot after the incident and is being searched for. The incident triggered panic in the village, forcing many members of the wedding party to return home before the Dwar Puja ceremony. SP (South) Dinesh Puri said that an FIR has been registered against the accused, Adarsh Gupta. The bleeding piped music operator, identified as Rajeev, 20, was rushed to the district hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
