GORAKHPUR, Jan. 5 -- District police on Sunday arrested a first-year BTech student of Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT), Gorakhpur, for allegedly attacking and critically injuring his roommate with a brick while the latter was asleep in his hostel room late on Saturday night. While the motive of the attack is yet to be established, a case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused Ashish Kumar on the complaint of the victim's father. Police said Ashish was later produced before a magistrate and subsequently sent to jail. Further investigation into the incident is underway. The police said the injured student Shivansh Pandey, 20, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Gorakhpur, belongs to Babhnathar village of Prayagraj district. The accused is a resident of Shrinagar in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Circle officer, Gorakhpur Cantonment, Yogendra Singh said Shivansh was allegedly struck by Ashish multiple times on the head with a brick without any provocation. Medical authorities confirmed that the victim sustained severe head injuries and a fractured jaw, requiring more than 10 stitches.
