GORAKHPUR, Jan. 29 -- A 16-year-old girl from here allegedly attempted self-immolation after she was allegedly blackmailed and subjected to online harassment, police said. After the incident occurred on January 25 in an area under the Gorakhnath police station limits, she was admitted to the local medical college, where her condition was stated to be critical. The girl was allegedly being threatened with the circulation of some of her photographs on social media. According to police officials, she was under extreme duress due to continuous intimidation and blackmail. She sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Owing to her critical condition, she was later referred to the medical college. SP City Abhinav Tyagi stated that her statement was recorded on Tuesday evening, after which a case was registered against five individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). One of them has been arrested. Among those booked are one Zishan Khan alias Osama, his father Javed, his mother Chandni, and two more close relatives.
