Midnight fire damages shops in Lucknow's Transport Nagar
Lucknow, Jan. 29 -- A major fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday in Transport Nagar Phase-1, near the RTO office road in Sarojini Nagar, damaging several roadside shops. No one was injured in the incident, officials said.
The fire caused panic in the area, which sees heavy movement of vehicles even late at night. Locals said a major accident was avoided due to the quick response of the fire department.
According to officials, a distress call was received at the Sarojini Nagar fire station at around 2.52 am, reporting a fire in multiple roadside shops. Two fire tenders from Sarojini Nagar and one from Alambagh were rushed to the spot.
Lucknow chief fire officer Ankush Mittal said the fire was intense when firefighters arrived and there was a risk of it spreading due to the close distance between the shops. Firefighters worked for nearly one-and-a-half hours to bring the blaze under control and completely extinguish it.
Preliminary information suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. A detailed inquiry will be conducted to confirm the exact cause and assess the losses....
