LUCKNOW, May 1 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president on Thursday extended support to the special session of the UP Legislative Assembly on women's reservation. In a post on X, she said it was "extremely regrettable, unfortunate and highly concerning" that despite prolonged struggles, the issue of providing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state legislative assemblies to ensure their fair participation in politics had not progressed. Meanwhile, Mayawati reviewed the functioning of the party's Punjab and Haryana units at a meeting held in Delhi. She directed leaders and office-bearers of the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab units to begin preparations for the assembly elections scheduled next year.
