Haridwar, Feb. 3 -- A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his friend over a dispute related to the purchase of a mobile phone in Laksar area of Haridwar, police said on Monday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal said the accused, Rohit Kumar, a resident of Rasoolpur, Laksar, was arrested on Monday following a detailed investigation. According to police, the incident took place on January 26. The victim, Sunny (20), also a resident of Rasoolpur, had allegedly given his identity documents and some money to Rohit to purchase a new mobile phone from the Sultanpur market. Later, the two friends, along with another man named Raja, consumed alcohol together. After Raja left, both Rohit and Sunny continued drinking. A dispute arose between the two, which escalated from a verbal argument into a physical fight. Under the influence of alcohol, Rohit strangulated Sunny to death," SSP Dobhal said.
