Man gets 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping minor
LUCKNOW, April 1 -- A Lucknow court on Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.52,000 for the rape of a minor girl.
The conviction was secured under 'Operation Conviction,' a special drive initiated by the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police.
"The punishment was delivered by the Court of Additional District Judge, Special POCSO Act-I, Lucknow, Ashutosh Kumar Singh, on March 31.
The convict, identified as Karuna Shankar, a resident of Hardoi and currently residing in Dubagga,
Lucknow, was found guilty in connection with a case registered in September 2021 at the Kakori Police Station," added a police press note.
The case was filed on the complaint of the victim's mother regarding the sexual assault on her minor daughter, along with threats to kill.
The court convicted the accused under multiple sections, including Section 376AB (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 5/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"For the primary offences under the POCSO Act and IPC Section 376AB, Karuna Shankar was awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a monetary penalty of Rs.50,000. Additionally, he was handed a one-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1,000 each under IPC Sections 323 ( voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation). The court ruled that all sentences will run concurrently," said DCP (West) Kamlesh Dixit....
